Making Places Inbetween

How do we make a place while we are in movement? Making Places Inbetween takes that question as its starting point and answers it in an unusual form: an exhibition-as-book, in which the chapters of a publication are turned into collaborative and multivocal works.

Narratives of placemaking in Italy, France, and Chile appear through the voices of communities in movement — people resisting and inhabiting border regimes, and building something that functions as a place while nothing about their situation is settled. Inspired by the oceans that connect these territories, the project assembles a constellation of stories running through water, memory, and movement.

Working between art and anthropology, the exhibition gathers installation, sound, photography, conversations, and activations. It is as concerned with method as with material: alongside the migratory experiences it holds, it asks how such experiences are researched in the first place, and how they can be shared without being flattened into data or spectacle.
