Gonzalo Reyes Araos

An artist examining how digital systems mediate our relationships with each other and with nature.
Gonzalo Reyes Araos trained at the Escuela de Bellas Artes de Valparaíso and has lived and worked in Berlin since 2013. His practice investigates how digital communication is redefining human relationships and our relationship with nature.
From the perspective of migration, he questions physical location, immateriality, and the systems through which environments are mediated and controlled. He conceives binary code as an architecture of interaction mediated through light, in which algorithmic logic connects physical and virtual universes.
Working across painting, sculpture, and installation, he uses cyberspace as a medium through which contemporary forms of ubiquity, distance, and presence can be explored.
