Fede Taus
Based in Chile and Germany
A painter working from family archives and found images, between document, fiction, and interpretation.
Fede Taus (b. 1984, Santiago de Chile) works with the relationships between image, memory, and cultural construction. Using family photographic archives, found images, and historical references, he examines how images take part in forming both individual and collective narratives.
His painting investigates the unstable boundaries between document, fiction, and interpretation, asking how an image changes when it is remembered, reproduced, displaced, or recontextualised.
He studied at the Universidad de Chile and completed a Master’s degree in Media Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig — Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst — under the supervision of Alba D’Urbano. He lives and works between Chile and Germany. His work has been presented internationally at NordArt, MONOPOL Berlin, and Hauskunst Mitte, and his practice has received support from the DAAD and the Free State of Saxony, among other institutions.
